Pyx Health, a company that uses mobile technology to reduce loneliness and social isolation in healthcare, has acquired FarmboxRx, a food delivery service focused on improving health through better nutrition.
Pyx Health, based in Arizona, runs a digital platform that connects vulnerable individuals with mentor-led care navigation. The company focuses on non-medical factors like loneliness and other social needs. Its services include research guidance, care coordination, and virtual support. Pyx Health partners with Medicaid, Medicare, managed care groups, and community health plans.
FarmboxRx, based in New York, partners with health providers to offer Medicaid and Medicare members fresh produce, pantry items, and healthy cooking kits through their insurance benefits.
The acquisition follows a $47.5 million investment in Pyx Health from S2G Investments and TT Capital Partners. Together, the two companies aim to address both social isolation and food insecurity. Their combined platforms will also help health plans encourage healthy behaviors like completing health assessments and attending preventive care visits.
“Someone’s zip code or income should never define their health, but it often does,” said FarmboxRx founder and CEO Ashley Tyrner-Dolce in an email to MobiHealthNews. “As a former single mom on food stamps and Medicaid, I created FarmboxRx to fill the gaps I once faced. Now, with Pyx Health, we’ll be able to help even more people.”
Expanding Reach Through Targeted Programs
FarmboxRx has launched several targeted programs in recent years. In March, it introduced Drivers Health (DH), a platform addressing the healthcare needs of people across various social situations.
In 2024, the company rolled out a Maternal Health Program to support at-risk pregnant women. The program focused on nutrition education and health literacy. It covered topics like prenatal and postpartum care, child immunizations, mental health, and government support programs.
In 2023, FarmboxRx launched Feed by FarmboxRx, an app-based service providing fresh produce and pantry staples to people affected by cuts to SNAP benefits.
Back in 2021, the company partnered with Minnesota-based HealthPartners to deliver farm boxes to Medicare members enrolled in Minnesota Senior Health Options.
With this acquisition, Pyx Health and FarmboxRx aim to create a stronger, more comprehensive platform that supports whole-person care by addressing both social and nutritional needs.
