In a joint statement released on May 28, 2025, the Union of Professional Nurses and Midwives Ghana (UPNMG), the Professional Association of Psychiatric Nurses Ghana (PAPNG), the National Association of Registered Midwives Ghana (NARM-GH), and the Ghana Registered Midwives Association (GRMA) expressed concern over GRNMA’s decision to go on strike.

The unions argued that this move contradicts an agreement made at a joint meeting on May 27, 2025, where all parties agreed to delay any industrial action. The delay was to allow for further consultations and a meeting with the Minister of Finance about implementing the Conditions of Service under the Collective Agreement.

“We are deeply concerned by GRNMA’s unilateral decision to proceed with the strike, which goes against the collective resolution,” the unions said in their statement.

The unions emphasized their commitment to the negotiation process but stressed the need for continued discussions and a unified approach. They warned that individual actions could weaken their collective bargaining efforts.

They also clarified that they are not participating in the strike and have instructed their members to continue working and providing essential healthcare services while talks with the Ministry of Health and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission continue.
