In 2024, the WHO European Centre for Primary Health Care worked closely with countries across the region to strengthen international cooperation and support health reforms. The team carried out 22 missions focused on analyzing policy challenges, encouraging political dialogue, and creating solutions suited to each country’s needs.
A major achievement was the growth of partnerships. This included an exchange between China and Kazakhstan on primary health care, and the launch of WHO’s third demonstration platform in Spain. Another milestone was the completion of the final group of the Primary Health Care Performance Assessment and Management course. Over four years, this course has trained national health leaders from 20 countries.
Virtual efforts also gained traction. The fourth season of the talk show Let’s Talk Primary Health Care brought together key changemakers. Additionally, WHO launched a new series of mini-conferences on primary health care. These events offered deep discussions on important policy and practice topics and attracted more than 500 participants.
Looking ahead, primary health care will remain central to WHO’s European Programme of Work. This focus will create new chances to strengthen primary health care in national strategies. It aims to improve responses to health challenges, promote healthy ageing, address climate change, and support innovation.
The report highlights important stories, data, and results from 2024. It underscores the essential role of people and teams dedicated to achieving universal health coverage.
