The Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) has urged the Federal Government to promptly release the ₦200 million earmarked for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) in the 2025 national budget.
Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, the founder of AHBN, made the appeal in a press release sent to our correspondent.
He emphasized the importance of timely disbursement of the funds to safeguard public health and improve hygiene and safety standards at healthcare facilities nationwide.
Garba praised the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMOH), and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) for including this funding in the approved 2025 budget.
The allocation, under the budget line “Health Promotion and Disease Prevention/IPC” (code ERGP25217466), is seen as a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s IPC efforts and advancing health security objectives.
AHBN also expressed gratitude to AFENET and Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) for their technical support and funding in the advocacy campaign that led to the reinstatement of the IPC budget line, which had been excluded in the 2024 budget.
“Through the collaboration with these partners, AHBN led a series of advocacy actions, including engaging with the Budget Office of the Federation, policy discussions with key agencies, and raising public awareness through media and civil society platforms,” Garba added.
