Singapore’s national health technology agency, Synapxe, is preparing to announce new digital healthcare applications, solutions, and partnerships. This follows a significant government investment aimed at boosting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across the country’s healthcare system.
In October, the Ministry of Health revealed a funding plan of SG$200 million (about US$150 million) over five years. The goal is to implement AI technologies on a large scale through national healthcare projects. The government is especially focused on encouraging the use of generative AI tools. These tools can automate repetitive tasks, such as writing and summarizing medical records, which can save healthcare workers valuable time. A generative AI-powered solution to automatically update health records is expected to launch by the end of 2025.
To support this effort, Synapxe recently launched the GenAIus Hub, a learning platform for generative AI, and Synapxe Tandem, which offers prompt templates. These tools help healthcare professionals explore and test AI applications more easily and at scale.
Andy Ta, Synapxe’s chief data officer and director of Data Analytics and AI, told Healthcare IT News that not all healthcare workers are comfortable using AI yet. Many lack experience or confidence with these new technologies. Synapxe aims to provide training and tools to help public healthcare institutions adopt AI in their daily work.
Synapxe is also hosting competitions that encourage healthcare practitioners to use generative AI in real-world scenarios. These contests use gamification to help participants learn how to operate large language models effectively.
Beyond generative AI, Singapore is exploring agentic AI in healthcare. Unlike generative AI, agentic AI can make decisions and perform tasks independently, adapting to new situations and interacting dynamically with its environment.
Ta explained that agentic AI has the potential to transform healthcare by improving decision-making, coordination, and outcomes across large healthcare systems.
The Bigger Picture
Over the past two years, Synapxe has launched several platforms to support AI adoption. One such platform is AimSG, which provides hospitals and primary care centers with access to various medical imaging AI models. These models can be quickly swapped in and deployed. For example, Lunit’s chest X-ray AI has been tested at Changi General Hospital, Singapore General Hospital, and the National Health Group Polyclinics.
Another key platform is HEALIX, a cloud-based system launched last year. It allows users to securely conduct analytics projects and access comprehensive data for AI model development.
