Thousands of vulnerable children and families in the Western Cape will soon receive essential meals more quickly and efficiently. This improvement comes after the Mustadafin Foundation received a new delivery truck from the South African Muslim Charitable Trust (SAMCT), based in Durban. The truck will strengthen the foundation’s food relief efforts across the province.
The recent handover marks an important step for Mustadafin, which provided an impressive 8,847,470 meals in 2024 alone. This equals about 27,910 meals delivered every week. The new vehicle will help solve growing challenges in transporting food to under-resourced schools and communities.
“Our food programmes support thousands of children who depend on daily nutrition for brain development, school success, and overall health,” said Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem, Director of the Mustadafin Foundation. “Without proper nutrition, these children face many disadvantages. This truck will ease the difficulties we have had delivering meals. We are very thankful to SAMCT for their support.”
Faried Boltman from SAMCT highlighted the value of this partnership. “Mustadafin is committed to serving healthy, nutritious meals to children every day, helping their physical and mental growth. We are happy to work with them so they can better reach communities in need and expand their relief work.”
In addition to its food relief programmes, the Mustadafin Foundation runs a winter outreach project. Each year, it provides warm meals, blankets, and clothing to around 4,000 people during the coldest months. The foundation is also preparing for Eidul Adha, an annual event that brings hope and joy to those in need.
