Healthscope, one of Australia’s largest private healthcare providers, has today announced that it has officially entered administration.
This development may cause concern for patients, staff and local communities who rely on Healthscope’s services.
Despite the announcement, Healthscope said it will continue to operate as usual with no changes to patient care and staffing. The hospital group confirmed that all planned medical procedures will proceed as planned.
The government has been in close contact with Healthscope throughout this process. The government has made it clear that it expects the hospital group, lenders and owners to work together to minimize the impact on patients, staff and the healthcare system as a whole.
The Department of Health, Treasury and Finance and other departments have been coordinating closely to prepare the government for the outbreak.
Today, government officials met with Healthscope’s managers and receivers to discuss priorities and set expectations. The government stressed that patient care and staff welfare must remain the top priority.
Officials also stressed the importance of these hospitals as a vital part of the healthcare system. They made it clear that the government would not allow these assets to be used for profit by international investors.
