UNICEF India has launched ‘Meri Thali Sehatwali’ (My Plate is a Healthy Plate), a digital campaign designed to encourage healthy eating habits and better food choices among Indian families. The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to improve diets and create healthier food environments for a well-nourished India.
The campaign targets diverse audiences through engaging content such as static posts, videos, and jingles, focusing on raising awareness about the importance of balanced diets at different life stages.
Key Themes of the Campaign:
-
Breastfeeding and complementary feeding for children under 2 years.
-
Healthy breakfasts and snacks for adolescent girls, pregnant, and lactating women.
-
Promoting fair food practices: Girls and women should not eat last or least.
-
Encouraging colorful, diverse meals with local and seasonal ingredients.
-
Discouraging junk and ultra-processed foods high in sugar, salt, and fat.
-
Stressing daily physical activity for all ages.
Cynthia McCaffrey, UNICEF India Representative, emphasized that informed food choices significantly impact growth and well-being. She noted the need to address the lack of public knowledge about healthy diets tailored to various life stages.
With rising challenges like obesity, undernutrition, and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) linked to unhealthy diets, the campaign aims to bridge the knowledge gap and support healthier lifestyles.
