WASHINGTON, June 4, 2025— A new partnership of health leaders from both public and private sectors has been formed to ensure health screening guidelines keep pace with advances in FDA-approved technologies and clinical standards.
The group, called the Alliance for Screening Measurement Modernization (ASMM), brings together organizations across healthcare. Their goal is to create a better system to quickly incorporate new evidence into national health screening policies.
Lee Fleisher, M.D., M.L., chair of ASMM and founder of Rubrum Advising, said, “It is very important for doctors to have the latest tools to keep patients healthy. Technology is advancing fast, but updating the quality measures that guide screening often takes more than ten years. This delay means doctors are not encouraged to use tests that are faster, safer, or less invasive, simply because these new tests are not yet included in current guidelines.”
In the next six months, ASMM plans to:
- Create a clear and repeatable framework that helps update screening quality measures faster.
- Support the use of new technologies that make diagnosis quicker, more accurate, and easier to access.
- Present a joint white paper and policy recommendations to Congress and federal agencies.
ASMM has two main groups: the Quality Council and the Industry Council. The Quality Council includes guideline-setting organizations and nonprofits. The Industry Council consists of companies leading innovation in screening technologies.
The Quality Council will develop the new framework and work independently. The Industry Council will provide a platform for innovators and other stakeholders to share their views. Together, these councils cover many medical fields and combine expertise in clinical practice, quality measurement, and policy.
Founding members of the Industry Council include Geneoscopy and Guardant Health. Founding members of the Quality Council include ECRI, Friends of Cancer Research, Milken Institute’s FasterCures, URAC, and others.
