A Track Record of Innovation

O’Neill previously served at HHS from 2002 to 2008, where he led major FDA reforms, strengthened food and drug safety laws, and helped establish the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR).

After his government service, he became a managing director at Clarium Capital and later led the Thiel Foundation, where he funded tech-driven nonprofits and co-founded the Thiel Fellowship—a program that launched billion-dollar startups.

Most recently, as CEO of the SENS Research Foundation, O’Neill advanced regenerative medicine research, targeting diseases like Alzheimer’s, cancer, and heart failure. His work focused on immune system rejuvenation, eliminating aging cells, and repairing mitochondrial damage.

With his return to HHS, O’Neill is expected to accelerate the agency’s shift toward technology-driven, patient-first health care solutions.
