by Kaia

Bhupinder Sandhu, a mindfulness coach from Gravesend, Kent, has completed a continuous walk from London to Brighton to encourage open conversations about mental health and inspire self-belief.

Wearing his trademark orange high-visibility vest, Mr. Sandhu set off from Trafalgar Square at 20:00 BST on 19 April. He walked non-stop for 100km (62 miles), reaching Brighton Palace Pier at 17:00 the following day—without sitting down once along the way.

Walking for a Cause

This is not Mr. Sandhu’s first endurance challenge. He has previously walked from London to Wales and from London to Edinburgh, raising funds for the mental health charity Mind.

“People do stop me when I’m walking and we talk about mental health, so it’s good to see,” he said.
“One thing I want is for people to talk about their mental health problems, but people are scared. It has to change, but nothing much is happening.”

More Challenges Ahead

Later this month, Mr. Sandhu will tackle the entire 298km (185 mile) Thames Path as part of his “Million Step May” challenge.

All of this is in preparation for his most ambitious trek yet: a walk from London to Paris planned for August, once again in support of Mind.

Raising Awareness, Step by Step

Through these endurance walks, Mr. Sandhu hopes not only to raise funds but also to break the stigma around mental health conversations.
